A beautiful old Victorian house!!! Owner is wonderful man and breakfast was awesome !!!

This beautiful majestic 1894-ish home is sadly not kept up to its potential. We found it dusty dark hot and poorly lit. When we arrived it was like we were unexpected guests. The air conditioner was not turned on so the room seemed unwelcoming as the air was stale and unbreathable. Although the air conditioner did function well it rattled and clanged and vibrated noisily. The walls were stained, the base boards dirty. The sheets were clean and crisp. The small (but adequate) fridge was not plugged in, and when we did plug it in and turned it up high to cool quickly, it didn't work efficiently as our water was not cold by the next morning. The breakfast setting was beautiful at first glance but upon closer inspection the linens were stained.

Stayed there while on a house hunting trip to Amherst. Room was ok. Everything felt so dark and old (I know it is an older home). Their dog barked all the time...perhaps change the name after the dog. (?). Breakfast was limited but ok...but the dog barking (we love/have dogs but this fellow was really barking) was a bit much.

A beautiful home but it requires a good cleaning. The smell in the home can be attributed to the age of the home but also to the animals the owner has. I would not recommend this B&B to anyone.

We spent 4 nights at The Regent while attending a workshop at Deanne Fitzpatricks rug Hooking studio. While The Regent has the potential to be an amazing home, I wouldnt recommend this B&B to anyone until it has a THOROUGH cleaning. It has a very musty smell, the dust is so thick on the baseboards and top of pictures etc that you know it hasnt seen a cleaner for a LONG time. The old furniture in the upstairs common area is covered in dust(allergy sufferers beware). I dropped something on the floor and had to get down and reach under the bed to retrieve it and the dust under there was disgusting( you can clearly see where the surface cleaning that the house has been receiving ends). Although the temperature was going down to close to zero at night the heat wasnt turned on and it was very cold during breakfast.(we did notice the furnace running on the 3rd morning)There were so many issues its hard to put them all down. We didnt feel welcome and the house was cold so we went to our room and stayed there with the heat on. We only ever saw Jim (there didnt appear to be anyone else around). The day we arrived we were asked what time we would like breakfast( served between 7 & 9) and then told it would be served at 8 am and then while sitting at the table having coffee and breakfast and talking to a couple of other women ( at 8:30) Jim walked in and announced it was time for us to be on our way or wed be late??? I picked dog hair out of my yogurt 3 out of 4 days and the dogs (2) barked whenever we came in or moved about the house. One morning we had sausage (black and dried out) with eggs that were over cooked with no apology and not one person at the table was even asked HOW they like their eggs! And all this plus more for $175/night( we stayed Monday through Thursday night in May-what does he charge for peak season? I feel this home has gotten out of his control and maybe his health isnt up to the challenge but in contrast this week we are in an air bnb in Picton Ontario and its warm and inviting and CLEAN (#thewoodvillechurch) circa 1828! And no musty smells...I do need to apologize for an error in the above review-I said we paid $175/night, which was incorrect-I couldn't figure out how to edit-however we did pay $150/night split between the 2 of us-$75 each-$299 each for 4 nights-I see the owner says we paid below his posted rate of $65/night but we have the MasterCard receipt to show otherwise. I think we'll agree to disagree here-the dust was NOT from construction-I do know the difference. And I read other reviews that said the same thing about the smell and the dust AND the dogs so I'm still standing by my review. And I do believe there is wonderful potential here -it just needs to be addressed.
